IN-DEPTH BIO:
Cara Lockwood is the USA Today bestselling author of more than 35 books, known for her quick wit, relatable characters, and knack for turning life’s most unpredictable moments into page-turning stories. She burst onto the literary scene with "I Do (But I Don’t)," a romantic comedy that became a Lifetime Original Movie starring Denise Richards. She went on to write numerous contemporary romances, women’s fiction titles, and young adult novels. The daughter of a Japanese-American father and Scottish/English mother, she also writes under the pen name Cara Tanamachi.
In 2023, life handed her a plot twist she never saw coming: During a routine mammogram, Cara was diagnosed with Stage 1 HER+ breast cancer. What followed was a grueling year of a double mastectomy, chemotherapy, and reconstructive surgery. She went into remission in 2024, forever changed — not just by the physical toll of treatment, but by the emotional and mental resilience it demanded.
Out of that experience came her latest work, "There’s No Good Book for This but I Wrote One Anyway: The Irreverent Guide to Crushing Breast Cancer" (Oct. 1, 2025). More than a memoir, it’s a battle plan wrapped in humor, honesty, and the occasional well-placed curse word. Cara calls it “part memoir, part pep talk, and part screaming into the void.” Each chapter ends with a pep talk — a lifeline for readers who need encouragement to keep going through the hardest days.
The book serves two audiences: those in the thick of treatment and those who love them. For patients and survivors, Cara offers hard-won insights on everything from navigating doctor’s appointments to managing the emotional rollercoaster, all while keeping a sense of humor. For friends and family, she provides a candid look at what helps — and what doesn’t — when supporting someone through cancer.
Philanthropy is woven into the project. Cara is donating half of all book proceeds to breast cancer research and patient support: 25% to the Susan G. Komen Foundation and 25% to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Cara’s writing career spans genres and audiences, from romantic comedies to paranormal fiction to young adult novels. Her hallmark style — sharp, heartfelt, and infused with humor — is what makes her breast cancer guide so distinct. She’s not afraid to laugh at the absurdities of treatment, share the raw realities of recovery, or admit when she needed a good cry (or a handle of tequila). She believes in the power of storytelling not only to entertain but to connect, heal, and inspire. Whether she’s penning a lighthearted romance or a deeply personal guide to surviving cancer, Cara approaches every project with empathy, candor, and a deep respect for her readers’ journeys.
A native of Texas, Cara lives in Chicagoland with her family and Teddy, a 95-pound goldendoodle. She enjoys live music, travel, and “enthusiastic but imperfect” gardening.
With "There’s No Good Book for This but I Wrote One Anyway," Cara Lockwood proves that even in life’s toughest chapters, there’s room for laughter, hope, and the strength to keep turning the page. Learn more at theresnogoodbookforthis.com and caratheauthor.com.
